Secondary Units

The objectives for this twelve-day Digital Media, Arts, & Design 3-5 unit are focused on rotoscope animation techniques, sound editing, and video editing. The conceptual basis for this unit is in the production and consumption of media, as explained in  Boyer's 8 human commonalities.

This unit's assessment includes exit tickets, participation in discussions and critiques, and a rubric-graded final project.

The expected product outcome from this unit is an .mp4 rotoscoped animation with custom-edited video and sound that deals with the student's own production and consumption of media.

The objectives for this three-day 8th grade unit are focused Amy Sherald and the Color Field Painting movement to expand the student's knowledge of color theory and portrait painting. The first day is focused on color theory and paint mixing, the second day focuses on the analysis of Amy Sherald's work and drawing/painting foundations, and the third days objective is to paint a portrait of a classmate from life.

This unit's assessment is mostly done through exit tickets that prompt students to reflect on their expanding knowledge of color theory, art analysis, and journaling to contemplate their own work-specifically, their understanding and implementation of color theory in their final portrait.

Expected product outcomes from this unit are color field paintings from the first day, abstract line and color field paintings made from line drawings in the second day, and full-color acrylic portraits painted during the third day.

The objectives for this eight-day Art I unit are focused on Ai Weiwei and the Conceptual Art movement to expand the student's knowledge of ceramics, conceptual art, art analysis, art critique, and to gain an understanding of an art studio practice.

This unit's assessment includes exit tickets, journaling, participation in discussions, completion of thumbnails, completion of a mock-up, a rubric-graded final project, and participation in critique.

Expected product outcomes from this unit are a mock-up of their final ceramic sculpture and their final ceramic sculpture.

Elementary Units

The objectives for this four day fourth and fifth grade unit are focused on stained glass, drawing and coloring techniques, and the creation of an understanding of differing cultural perspectives.

This unit's assessment is mostly done through exit tickets and conversations that gauge the student's use of art to process a change in their lives, and participation in group discussion/critique.

The expected product outcome from this unit is a drawing in a stained-glass style which is inspired by a change in a student's life.

The objectives for the three to five-day fifth grade unit are focused on Bryan Nash Gill and different styles of printmaking to expand the student's knowledge of relief printmaking, monotype printmaking, collagraph printmaking, and zines.

This unit's assessment is mostly done through exit tickets and rubrics that gauge the student's understanding of the different types of printmaking, the zine-making  process, and participation in group discussion/critique.

The expected product outcome from this unit is a zine that holds all of the different prints the students have made throughout the unit.

The objectives for the two-day second grade unit are focused on Helen Frankenthaler, Sam Gilliam, and Mark Rothko and color field painting to expand the student's understanding of and experience with how art can communicate emotion.
